Founder and partner of Rusk Renovations, John is a recognized industry building design leader, who is equally dedicated to client service and master craft. His expertise in the design and engineering of complicated mechanical systems, paired with a background in fine arts, has equipped him with the rare ability to understand and deliver the vision of both clients and their respective design teams. He is the author of On Time and On Budget, a homeowner’s guide to renovation, published by Doubleday. As an enthusiastic educator dedicated to developing the next generation of artisan builders, John teaches Residential Construction Management at Columbia University. He formerly taught at the Parsons School of Design. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie-Mellon University.
As a fourth-generation family member in the building trades, Rusk partner Mary Kocy brings over 30 years of experience in organizational development, education and human resource management to the firm. By attracting the most talented professionals and supporting them with on-going training and education, Rusk Renovations under her direction, remains steadfastly committed to maintaining the most demanding standards of quality and service in our industry. Mary holds a Master’s of Education from Bank Street College and a Bachelor’s degree in English from Indiana University.
Senior Project Manager/Director of Construction
Rob is a seasoned senior project manager with over 20 years of experience in luxury residential renovations in New York City and Long Island. His multidisciplinary approach to managing projects is a direct result of his mechanical expertise, combined with a diverse background in architecture, drafting, and business management. Rob studied Drafting, Architecture and Engineering at SUNY, Delhi and Business Administration at Nassau Community College.
David is a construction management specialist with 15 years of industry experience in the commercial, capital, and high-end residential construction market. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, David possesses strong leadership and communication skills and is a seasoned professional, who understands the importance of teamwork, consensus building, and discretion. He holds a Master of Construction Administration from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from SUNY, New Paltz.
Kurt is an engineer and project manager with 13 years of experience in the luxury residential and retail sectors. His motto is “Do it right the first time and everybody wins.” Kurt holds a Master’s degree in Construction Administration from Columbia University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Bucknell University.
Assistant Project Manager
Holding a Master’s in Architecture, Matt started his career at Rusk as an “extern” from the University of Michigan. Upon graduation, Matt worked for a year as a corporate architectural designer before returning to Rusk. Matt’s dedication to customer service and creative problem solving, as well as his enthusiasm for great design and New York City has proved an invaluable asset on every project he’s worked on. Matt holds a Master’s in Architecture from University of Michigan where he also received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture.
Zhen Lei has over 17 years of experience in real estate development and residential construction management in New York City. His estimating experience includes luxury residential apartment renovations and townhouses as well as out-of-the-ground condominium and hotel developments. Zhen holds a Master of Science in Real Estate Finance from NYU and a Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute.
Kenri has 17 years of experience in luxury residential general contracting. He works closely with project managers and subcontractors to oversee and coordinate the bidding process of every project. Kenri thrives at assessing key design elements and identifying cost efficient, high quality construction solutions. Kenri received his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from New York University.
Procurement and Logistics Specialist
David Garcia brings over 14 years experience in office and facilities management in the not-for-profit sector as well as in private industry in New York City. Prior to joining Rusk he served as the facilities manager for a global engineering firm and then the facilities and shop manager at a high-end residential renovation firm, where he also provided project management support. David studied accounting and liberal arts at LaGuardia Community College.
Assistant Project Manager
Ewa’s eight years in the construction industry includes a background in interior design and draftsmanship. Her extensive knowledge of woodworking production techniques, materials, and detailed finishing processes, assist in her generating accurate client-side cost estimates. Ewa received a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Politechinka Bialostocka University of Technology. She also holds AutoCAD Professional NYU and LEED AP certifications.
Assistant Project Manager
Ivelina has a background in estimating, marketing and finance. Prior to joining Rusk, she worked as an assistant project manager and estimator. Her skills include coordination, payment requisitions and LEED documentation. Ivelina holds Bachelors’ Degrees in Business, Finance, & Management and Marketing from CUNY - Brooklyn College in New York City, and is currently attending Pratt Institute for Construction Management.
Holly Weiss brings 15 years of construction industry experience to her role at Rusk Renovations. Holly is a licensed CPA who possesses a passion for all aspects of the work she performs. Her experience and skills in accounting, cash flow, and financial management provide the necessary tools to work closely with project managers. Holly holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and graduated Cum Laude.
Nataliya has 7 years of experience bookkeeping and six years of experience within the construction industry. Her role as bookkeeper plays a vital role in providing critical support for accounting and HR functions at the firm. Nataliya holds an Associate’s Degree in Accounting and Business Administration from ASA College; as well as a Master of Science in History and Political Science from Chernivtsi National University in Ukraine.
Marisa is an executive administrator with 10 years of experience working in high end residential construction in New York City. Her diverse skill set, combining the roles of office manager, project administrator and assistant project manager, creates a calm and streamlined work environment for all at the firm. Marisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology from the University of Vermont.
Chelsea Cota brings an array of experience in social media marketing, writing, and graphic design to Rusk. An avid reader and writer, she graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Political Science with a focus on Global Studies & Civic Education. Chelsea also holds certification in Social Media Marketing through Rutgers University’s Mini-MBA program. Chelsea also plans and organizes our extraordinary company events.
